Why I Stopped Worrying and Learned To Love the Bomb

Our current administration, which appears to be the cast straight out of Dr Strangelove more every day, has succeeded in scaring the bejeezus out of the population

Mad rushes to the Homeland Security Sections of local home improvement and hardware stores have sold out of every single row of duct tape and plastic sheeting with a few gas masks tossed in for good measure.

You know what they say --- "If You Can't Duct It - (insert the F word here) It". Well - this lady has optioned out on the 'duct it' part and is learning to love the bomb.

By loving the bomb, I can go normally through my daily life and not have to worry about color alerts, bomb shelters, or sealing my family in a room where all the bickering between the kids will use up the oxygen in five minutes flat.

By loving the bomb, I can simply brush aside the likes of George Tenet and John Ashcroft as they try to convince us of impending doom on their hourly television appearances.

By learning to love the bomb, I can come to grips with the reality of life.

The reality is quite simple … Fear mongers want us terrified and compliant. They would love nothing better than a subservient society. A society wrapped in duct tape would be perfect of course.

My reality tells me that if our intelligence cannot be sure when, where, how and what the sneaky little terrorists will attack, then there is no way to stop it. How can we properly prepare for the unknown? So many scenarios, so little duct tape.

Intelligence is telling us that the "chatter" has reached pre-September 11th proportions. They know something is going to happen, just not the specifics. How silly they would have looked if they presented the same suggestions for a Survival Package back in 2001 as they are telling us now. We would all have our safe room's prepared with water, food, batteries, flashlights, duct tape, plastic sheeting and radios. Instead, the terrorists used airplanes as their source for an attack. Not even the mighty duct tape can stop an airplane once its purpose was being used to slam into a building.

By documented admissions, we have been assured repeatedly that there was no clue that the terrorists planned to use our own airplanes against us as their attack

Yet, just as much documentation proves otherwise. I find it a bit hard to place my trust in such a skeptical and contradictory National Security Agency

While we are being told to prepare against a chemical attack or biological attack, the terrorists most likely have another plan on a grander scale than their last feat. It is about sensationalism more so than massive deaths. If they had really wanted a massive death toll, they would have struck the towers at 10:00 a.m. when it was filled to capacity instead of when most workers had not even arrived at their offices yet. The purpose appeared to be a "Spectacular" attack that would be televised live for the whole world to see.

Somehow, I don't see a virus released into the population as "spectacular". A dirty bomb might provide some of the glory that they seek and if that is what they use, it would be too late for anyone in the immediate vicinity and anyone outside the immediate vicinity would have no clue if it was a regular bomb or if it contained chemical agents. By the time that information would be known, we would already have been exposed so a sealed room has no purpose.

I suggest everyone quit worrying and accept the fact that, yes, another attack of some sort could very well take place.

Accept the fact that we cannot stop it.

Accept the fact that if we are in the path of the terror plot, we will die.

Accept the fact that if we are lucky enough not to be in the path, life will go on.

Accept the fact that while the Administration is focused on Saddam's Weapons of Mass Distraction, North Korea's daffy duck of a leader, Kim Jong, has nuclear missiles capable of hitting the West Coast and no amount of duct tape will stop them.

Most of all, accept the fact that we as a people have no control over the events unfolding in the world but we do have control over our ability to live our lives to the fullest each and every day.

So, stop worrying and learn to love the bomb.

I did.
